Andres Barrera M.D. is board certified psychiatrist specializing in mood and anxiety disorders in adults. He also holds a board certification in Psychosomatic Medicine -treating mental health issues in patients with medical conditions-. Dr. Barrera has a whole patient approach to mental health, providing both pharmacology and psychodynamic psychotherapy to support patient well-being.
He obtained his medical degree from Universidad Javeriana, in Bogota, Colombia, and received his Psychiatry degree from Beth Israel Medical Center, N.Y. Dr. Barrera holds a Psychosomatic Medicine degree from George Washington University, and a Psychoanalytic degree from the International Psychoanalytic Association.
Before joining Comprehensive Psychiatric Services, he was clinical assistant professor at University of Pennsylvania, where he received the “Albert Stunkard Faculty Recognition Award” for his outstanding ability and commitment to teaching and mentoring residents.
He likes to spend his free time with his family, and he enjoys cooking and reading. Dr Barrera is also a proficient amateur pianist.
Dr Barrera also speaks Spanish.
